Supporting A Safe, Inclusive Community

Riverview is a community where everyone can feel welcome, involved, and at home. It is truly a great place to grow, live, work and play; a town that provides engaging programs and services for all ages.

If re-elected, I will support:

  • continuing to work with RCMP to address petty crime, vehicle thefts and traffic concerns;
  • working with the Codiac Regional Policing Authority and RCMP to secure necessary police resources in Riverview and continue to support the needs of Riverview Fire & Rescue;
  • investments that enable a safe, sustainable and inclusive town such as the many programs and services Riverview offers;
  • working with council to maintain high service and program standards for snow removal, road and park maintenance, and support local community groups through the annual grants program; and
  • collaborating with our regional, provincial and federal partners to address social issues related to homelessness, drug use, and mental health.

Work to date:

During my term as Mayor, my council colleagues and I have prioritized safe and inclusive communities. This includes:

  • investing in new Codiac RCMP officer positions and working with the RCMP on targeted police presence increases and traffic enforcement;
  • supporting Riverview Fire & Rescue personnel and resources;
  • adding by-law enforcement hours;
  • addressing safety concerns at various intersections including Buckingham/ Whitepine and Trites/Coverdale, creating a traffic calming pilot program, and adding sidewalks on streets like Sussex Avenue;
  • collaborating with the Seniors Roundtable to achieve the “Age Friendly Community” designation;
  • arranging town hall-style meetings with RCMP and residents to address concerns;
  • removing the permanent winter parking ban and replacing it with a flexible alert system; and
  • collaborating with local schools on initiatives such as Riverview’s Next Big Idea contest (including Grade 4 classes in all Riverview schools) and meeting annually with Riverview High School student government to get feedback on issues important to youth and to collaborate with each other.
